"I was wanting to know any tricks to get a cigar to burn even. I have been lighting slowly and evenly, smoking slowly and evenly but (they) won't burn even. I have a box of La Gloria Cubano's Torpedo No 1's and they just don't burn consistent. Any tips would be great!"
- Contributed by C. Powell from Lafayette, CO.

This is a tough one. If there was a "trick" that consistently worked I would be a very happy guy (not that I wasn't very happy already). Believe me I have tried them all; lighting tricks, holding a certain way tricks, casting spells tricks, foul language tricks, even tried sweet talking. The reality is that premium cigars are hand made and subject to human flaws, just as anything made by hand. That is also what makes them so great! When you find one that burns so near to perfect, you can marvel at the greatness you hold in your hand.

An even burn is really a factor of how the cigar was constructed. How experienced the roller is in constructing a cigar, the quality of the tobacco leaf he is using, his state of mind at the time, etc. are all factors. Once it is rolled, there is very little you can do, other than to keep it properly humidified. A dry, fast burning cigar will tend to burn unevenly quicker, exaggerating any imperfections. About the best you can do is to find a cigar that consistently burns evenly and add that to your preferred list.

PS: If you hear of or discover a trick, let me know. It's always fun to test another theory.
